If you still haven’t had the chance to attend the University of Texas at El Paso’s production of Mary Poppins, you still have a couple of weeks to do so. UTEP’s Dinner Theatre will continue performing the musical until May 24. The musical is based on the books by P.L. Travers and the popular 1964 Disney movie.
In order to assist the dysfunctional Banks family, the magical nanny flies into their lives by umbrella. According to the El Paso Times, The show is said to have lots of special effects and 14 different sets. This includes a two-story house where the Banks family resides.
The movie and book were adapted for Broadway in 2001 by producer Cameron Mackintosh. The show premiered in London in 2004 and on Broadway in 2006. In addition to newer songs, the musical features the popular songs from the movie such as “A Spoonful of Sugar” and “Supercalifragisticeexpialidocious” (I think I spelled that correctly?). Tickets prices range from $17.50-$46.50. Tickets can be purchased via ticketmaster.com or by calling UTEP at 915-747-5234 or 915-757-6060.
