El Paso Sun City Pride events began Sunday at Memorial Park and Touch Bar. An art exhibit, dance parties, parade and several other events will take place through June 30. The events celebrate the accomplishments and contributions made by the local LGBT community. The events continue to grow in popularity, along with helping to raise awareness. The organization has the largest PRIDEFEST celebration in west Texas. El Paso Sun City Pride donates monies raised to local charities. The monies are also used to award college scholarships.
What’s Up, a local alternative weekly newspaper reported more than 12,000 participated in the celebration last year. Several traveled from other states and Europe to attend. This year’s festivities include winners from RuPaul’s Drag Race television series, along with live music from American Idol alumni David Hernandez and Lazaro Arbos. These are just a few more of the events being held. For the full list, visit http://www.EPSCP.org.
