In an open letter and petition on change.org, Guillermo Castaneda, a mental health counselor, asked NBC to cancel Donald Trump’s programs. As of Monday, Castaneda’s petition received more than 218,000 signatures. A separate petition on Moveon.org asked Macy’s to cut ties with Trump. As of Monday, this petition has more than 720,000 signatures. During Trump’s recent presidential candidate speech, he said Mexican immigrants are “bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime. They’re rapists and some, I assume are good people.” NBC cut ties with Trump on Monday. The network will not air the annual “Miss USA” and “Miss Universe” pageants. Trump will also not be part of “The Apprentice.” Spanish language network Univision also cut ties with Trump recently. Mexico will boycott the Miss Universe pageant. Trump tweeted on Tuesday, “I love the Mexican people, but Mexico is not our friend. They’re killing us at the border and they’re killing us on jobs and trade. FIGHT!” Castaneda, 39, moved from Mexico City to El Paso 20 years ago. He’s earned two Bachelor’s degrees and a Master’s degree from the University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP). He told the El Paso Times he wasn’t anything Trump talked about in his speech.
I initially heard of the petition via Facebook. I’m happy to say I signed it on Sunday. The El Paso Times reported Castaneda began his petition on change.org last Friday.

I don’t think so either, but it is just scary he has so much support AFTER those comments. It means there are still way too many people who agree.

I don’t think he’ll win but money talks…

The fact that he now leads the GOP field is pretty terrifying because of what it says regarding the out of control xenophobia among people in this country.

He’s an idiot! I’m not sure how a dumbass like him can have so much money! He’s losing some though with all of this. Hispanics are all over the place, whether it’s accepted or not. He messed up pretty bad this time though.

I’m always surprised when people take anything Trump has to say seriously. I mean, he’s a joke. But I read a recent comment from someone overseas who thought Trump might actually have a chance to be President. I guess not everyone knows him as well as Americans do.
“I love the Mexican people, but Mexico is not our friend. They’re killing us at the border and they’re killing us on jobs and trade. FIGHT!”
Actually, the U.S. is not Mexico’s friend. We’re the ones killing Hispanics on the border and locking them up in detention facilities. We’re the one who imposed the trade agreement on Mexico, which destroyed jobs in both countries. We’re the one who keeps fighting a failed drug war, responsible for millions of deaths in Mexico.
It’s been proven time and time again that Mexican immigrants contribute a lot to this country, even more so than most Americans, building small businesses and helping the economy. I just saw a headline that we’re the second country with the most Spanish speaking citizens, and soon Hispanics will outnumber white people. They already do in a number of states. Both Trump and Republicans are living in the past — let’s leave them there.
