“Straight Outta Compton”

“Straight Outta Compton” will be released in U.S. movie theaters exactly one month from today. Ever since I heard about the movie back in February, I’ve wanted to see it. The movie is the biography of two of my all time favorite rappers, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube while in N.W.A. Although there are a couple of songs I like, I’m not a huge Eazy-E or N.W.A. fan. However, I have a lot of respect for them. They both played an important role in the mainstream rap/hip-hop movement. I look forward to the Warren G and Snoop Dogg co-star appearances (the real rappers aren’t starring in the movie). As I mentioned before, Ice Cube will perform in El Paso this weekend. He will perform at one of the largest tattoo events in the U.S. Is anyone else also anticipating this movie?

  1. I agree with you. Ice Cube has always been great as a solo artist. I’ve always enjoyed Dr. Dre’s collaboration efforts. I started to like east coast rap when Biggie and Jay-Z came around.

  2. I’m of two minds about this movie. I would like to see it because of what N.W.A. meant to putting west coast rap on the map, but then I wouldn’t like to see it because I never really liked N.W.A. all that much. Loved Ice Cube, and Dre is/was a super producer, but the rest of them I never cared for one bit. Plus, I had that “east coast hip-hop bias” back when the group was popular.

And Eazy-E was one of the worst rappers ever. And that was with Cube ghostwriting his rhymes.
