Happy Saturday everyone! I hope you’re having a good weekend! As I mentioned before, I had the opportunity to attend the Earth, Wind and Fire concert on Thursday night at the University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP). Me and my friend ended up getting good seats the day of the concert. A couple of beers, along with a high energy band and lots of great light effects, what more could one ask for?
The 11-member band played the majority of their hit songs like, “September”, “The Reason”, “After the Love is Gone”, “Shining Star” and “Let’s Groove.” The song that made me get out of my seat was “September.” There was some amazing percussion and saxophone solos throughout the show. It was hard to sit still throughout the nearly sold out two-hour performance. You know a band is top notch when a few of the members have been together since the late 1960’s. The band has seen several of its members leave yet they continue to thrive. I would’ve liked seeing an encore but it didn’t happen. I took several photos and videos on my phone but I wasn’t happy with the quality of them. I tried uploading the videos and e-mailing them but it just wasn’t happening. Earth Wind and Fire will perform in Atlantic City, New Jersey at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa on November 27 and 28.
The night before the concert, the band stopped at the local restaurant, Tom’s Folk Cafe. Tom’s is known for American comfort food such as macaroni and cheese and fried chicken. The New York Times said the restaurant “epitomizes the new El Paso dining scene.” The band members posed with some of Tom’s staff. Feel free to check out Tom’s web site here. Tom’s was thrilled to share their photo with me. I saw the photo on my Facebook news feed and asked if I could use it.

Am I dating myself when I say I had their 8-tracks? Grew up to their music. They actually did a remix of “September” for the holidays called appropriately enough, “December.” Maybe they even play that version live if touring during that time of year. Sounds like it was a great time had by all listening to their sounds.
