Saturday Evening Interview

Los Angeles LA Homes for Sale Downtown

Please meet fellow blogger, Katy Walker from Stereotypically Able. When time permits, Katy blogs about her life in Hollywood/Los Angeles, her disability and her hometown in Oregon. Katy is pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. Please take a look/follow her blog if you aren’t already!

Me: So how and when did you start your blog?
February 11th. It may sound crazy, but I remember the exact date I started solely based on the fact that it was my sister’s birthday. I was going through a lot at that time. I was dealing with my disability. I felt the call to be a voice and a light to the world dealing with that.

Me: For those who don’t know about you or your blog, what is your blog about?
My blog is about wanting to put a stop to the stereotypes that are put out there for people with disabilities, whether that be mental or physical.

Me: When did you first start writing?
Honestly, I hated writing when I was in school because I always tended to struggle with it. But earlier this year is when I started to fall in love with writing. I noticed that it helped me feel better. When I have a lot on my mind, I will write down what I am thinking and feeling. It is like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

Me: What future plans do you have for your blog?
I feel like I’ve been failing at my blog lately because life has gotten in the way and I haven’t had a chance to post as much as I would like. I would like to continue to talk about my life and what I am doing to break the stereotypes with my disability, living in LA, and working in the entertainment industry.

Me: If you had to describe yourself using one word, what would the word be and why?
Sarcastic. If you asked my roommate she would add a word and say sarcastic bitch lol. I tell it like it is and use sarcasm on the regular on top of that.

Me: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? I feel like I never have time anymore to do anything fun because life has been crazy. But I like to read in my spare time. I like to go shopping at the mall. I also like going to friends’ gigs around LA and support them and their music.

Me: What motivates you the most in life and why?
I would say that life motivates me. Living in LA the past year and a half, I’ve realized that I live life more on the edge and for me (and) that is exciting. It helps motivate me to try new things and grow in ways that I can’t even imagine.

Me: What are some of your favorite things in life? Pet peeves? Favorites: Dogs, chocolate, Starbucks, hugs, friends, laughing, Channing Tatum and Zac Efron. Pet peeves: Hypocritical people, people who assume things, traffic.

Me: What’s one of the best things about your hometown and why? How my hometown looks when the leaves change during the fall and Oregon Ducks football.

Me: What’s a little known fact nobody really knows about you? I was held back twice during school. Once in 8th grade because I just was not mentally ready for high school. Most of my friends were in the grade below me. The second time was senior year. I missed a lot of school because I had a lot of health issues and surgery. I was 2 credits away from graduating and 1 credit from walking with my class.
