Saturday Evening Interview

Welcome to this week’s Saturday Evening interview! This weekend’s interview is with my childhood friend, Ryan Loera. If you’ve been following me for awhile, you’ve seen posts about his books and blog here. Ryan is my friend who got me into blogging here almost 10 months ago. I began writing for his e-zine, Orangutan Spin. After awhile I eventually started Life of an El Paso Woman. Ryan has blogged for several years. His latest blog can be seen/followed here.

Me: I know you’ve been writing and blogging for a very long time under different user names. Tell us more about your writing. What can readers expect?
Writing is definitely a passion of mine. I really enjoy experimenting with the written word and blogging allows me to share my “word experiments” with like-minded people. Readers of my blog should expect the unexpected.

Me: For those who don’t know about your blog, what is is about? Are you still vlogging? If so, tell us more about it.
My blog, is mostly dedicated to creative writing, music, art, books, movie reviews and quotes. I still vlog but only when I feel that writing about something just isn’t enough.

Me: Talk about your music and art. I’ve been playing guitar for nearly 17 years now. I’m the lead guitarist in a band called Revolt. We recorded our first four song EP last year. I also paint various abstract paintings whenever I have a quiet moment to myself.

Me: When did you first start writing?

I first started writing short stories at the age of 11. I had my Mom make copies of them so I could pass them out to my classmates. They all liked them and encouraged me to keep writing. R.L. Stine and his Goosebumps books were a source of great inspiration for me back then.

Me: What are you working on right now and for the upcoming months?

I’ve been writing and editing a couple of novels, poetry collections, short story collections and movie scripts. All of which will be available online within the next four months.

Me: If you had to describe yourself using one word, what would the word be and why?

One word that describes me is creative because when I’m not writing, painting or playing music I’m still imagining my next creative project.

Me: What motivates you the most in life and why?

The creative process is what motivates me the most. I find it to be very meditative. When I’m playing my guitar, painting a new abstract piece or writing something I tend to slip into a mental state I call “The Zone”. When I’m in “The Zone” my mind focuses on nothing but the task at hand. It’s quite enjoyable and very addictive.

Me: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

In my spare time, I enjoy reading lots and watching a lot of movies. I also enjoy visiting my local library and hanging out with friends and family.

Me: What are some of your favorite things in life?  Pet Peeves?

I like a lot of the simple things in life. Such as good music, good food and good company. Some pet peeves of mine include bad spelling and closed minded people.

Me: Since you live in El Paso like me, how would you describe it? What activities would you recommend to tourists?

El Paso, TX is an interesting city. It’s infused with so much culture and inspiration that it can take awhile to really notice its charm. The Downtown area alone has a lot to offer tourists in the way of museums and live concert venues.

Me: What’s a little known fact nobody really knows about you?

Since I express a lot of my own opinions and ideas through my writing, music and art… there’s not a lot that my family and friends don’t know about me. Sometimes I like to sit in silence but I’m sure nobody would consider that to be shocking.

Me: Where can people find you on social media?

I have various social media accounts but I do the majority of my posting on my blog at and on Twitter at:  (@noiselessmadman)

Me: Would you like to add anything else?

Thanks for the thorough interview questions, Lisa! I’d like to remind everyone reading this to always follow your dreams! 🙂

  1. I was just wondering, would you be interested in turning the tables? Becoming the interviewee? What if I wanted to interview you about your personal experiences with drugs and the drug war? I guess that’s a sensitive subject, but if you’re interested, let me know. 🙂

  2. Aww! That’s so sweet. Not feeling too good. I went out with some co-workers last night. I had too much to drink. Oh well. Lol. I have to go through some tests. I think I’ll do another post about it. It might help someone.
