Joy is loosely based on the life story of entrepreneur/inventor Joy Mangano.
At a young age Joy began creating many different things. Her first practical invention was a dog collar that prevents choking.

Her grandmother was her main source of encouragement. She constantly told Joy that she would be the one to bring great fame and fortune to the entire family. But as Joy grew up she eventually had to abandon her dreams of being an inventor in order to raise a family and take care of her aging mother and father.

Joy was ready to accept a lifetime of struggle until she was suddenly struck with the idea for a new kind of mop. Armed with her daughter’s crayons and drawing paper, Joy sketched out the design of the first prototype. It was a mop that could be ringed out without touching the mop head.

  1. I’ve been wanting to see it. We saw Star Wars and The Hateful Eight instead. Maybe on my next day off I’ll see Joy. I know her story but I still want to see it.

  2. I watched this movie yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Jennifer Lawrence has so much talent — it just bursts off the screen. Every time Joy fails, you’re like, damn girl… And then you immediately wonder if she’s gonna stay down this time. It’s a really good movie. I highly recommend it.

    (But don’t blame me if you don’t like it, because I don’t think we have the exact same taste in movies.) 🙂
