Nothing Compares to You

The original

My favorite version out of the rest.

Hi everyone and happy Saturday! I hope you’re having a relaxing day. I’m relaxing but plan on running some errands in a bit. I’ll have the Saturday Evening Interview for you later on today. Nothing Compares to You has been one of my favorite songs from the early 90’s. Prince originally wrote it for Irish singer Sinead O’ Conner. Years later, he performed the song. It’s always hard finding songs by Prince on YouTube. Most of his songs are only covers. I found a video of him performing Nothing Compares to You but…it’s only the song! Several bands and artists like Chris Cornell, Stereophonics and Sarah McLachlan have covered this song. My favorite covers out of all of these is from Capital Cities. It has a more upbeat and jazzy sound compared to the others. I realize it’s a breakup song but I prefer their version. What do you think of the song? Which is your favorite version?

Sorry everyone, Prince is invisible in this one 😀

I’ve always liked Sarah McLachlan’s beautiful voice!

Chris Cornell does a wonderful job covering this song. I’ve always thought he was a talented singer and guitarist.

  1. Aww. He wasn’t that old. I lost my grandparents on my father’s side when I was little. I wasn’t that close to them but I was still sad, especially when my grandmother passed away. Luckily, I still have my mom’s parents. They’re 80 years old. I’m living with them at this time.

  2. Thank you, he was only 62 and my closest person during childhood and teenage time. I cannot believe it is already 26 years ago. Crazy how time flies. That song reminds me of him but I am not sad because of that. I love that song a lot!

  3. I did not know there are so many versions. But honestly, the original is unsurpassable. I remember hearing that song when driving back home from Vienna. It was after the funeral of my grandfather. That song was so fitting even in the time relation. Nothing compares to him.

  4. Oh wow! I don’t think I’ve heard that one. Thanks for mentioning it. I like Massive Attack. I started getting into their music when I first heard the theme song from House.

  5. Sinead O’Connor has a lovely voice. I didn’t know that Prince wrote the song. Thats a cool little fact. Not at all a fan of Sarah McLachlan. I can’t tell you why though. Just one of lifes mysteries.
