I’m stepping away from Women’s History Month for this post. Today would’ve been Dr. Seuss’ 112th birthday! Schools and families across the U.S. celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday by reading his and other books. My son and his school celebrate this Friday. We’re working on a birthday hat for his school project. He also gets to wear pajamas and attend a school dance on Friday. I was thinking of doing something that’s not too hard, something similar to the hat below. I’m sure a lot of his schoolmates will create the tall red and white hat. Me and my son want to do something different. I love the colors in the hat below. What do you think? I’ve always liked the bright blue and red in the hat below.
I learned to read at 5 with Dr. Seuss books. My favorites were always The Cat and the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham. I’ve read my son these classics, along with How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Horton Hears a Who many times. My son doesn’t like to read as much as I do. He’s more of a math kid but…Dr. Seuss books are an exception! We’ve also watched the movies several times. He has several stuffed animals and toys of Dr. Seuss characters. It’s hard to believe Dr. Seuss’ writing was rejected many times.
I looked for a YouTube video to share for this special day but I didn’t like any of them. A couple of them were rap battles between William Shakespeare and Dr. Seuss. I wasn’t impressed with them. I tried to get into the videos and laugh but unfortunately I really couldn’t. I know I’ve shared some of my favorite Dr. Seuss quotes in the past but…I’m doing it again. Here’s a few of them below:
“Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you.”
“Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So…get on your way.”
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
My favorite out of all of them is…
“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”
Do you have any Dr. Seuss favorites?

Oh really, Lynn? They do it every year at the schools over here and around the U.S. I know what you mean, it’s hard to pick one favorite. I myself have more than one favorite. 🙂

The first book I ever read was Cat In The Hat, and I loved reading all those stories to my son when he was a baby!

Oh, the Places You’ll Go is my all time fave. I taught it to my graduating seniors when I was still a high school teacher. It was always such a fun but bittersweet module. My favorite quote, since I was a kid in fact, has always been “A person’s a person no matter how small.” I was always the shortest in the class. =0)

I ❤ Dr. Seuss!
"You're in pretty good shape for the shape you are in." is one of my favorites, as well as the one that's your favorite. Good reminders!
