Hi everyone! I know I know it’s Monday! I couldn’t decide which song I wanted to feature! I looked around at different web sites and finally found this classic by Curtis Mayfield. The song debuted in 1970. Spinditty suggested this one and several other songs for Monday. Because of its awesome beat and lyrics, “Move On Up” got me going! I remember the song from the 2003 British movie, “Bend it Like Beckham.” It’s still a pretty good movie about football (soccer) and the Indian culture 13 years later. Well guys, it’s time for me to rise and grind! Have a great Monday and I’ll see you tomorrow. I’ll have a Romantic Tuesday story and song for you! Take care!
it is expensive to live here, especially in the big cities….

Maybe he was just a humble person. I really really enjoy the lyrics to this one. It made me want to get out of bed. I thought he was only a solo artist! Wow! I learn something new everyday, especially from the guru 😎

Depends on who you talk to. I never thought of him as underrated, but it maybe because he was kind of low-key about it. He was a great songwriter, for The Impressions, himself and others. His soundtrack to the movie Superfly is a must-listen, and is probably his greatest achievement in a career full of greatness.

Thanks Tracy! I’ve read that he’s really underrated. Is that true?

I must have missed this yesterday, or I forgot to comment. Great song! His first solo song after leaving The Impressions. A great social commentator and songwriter. He is truly missed.

Yes, really…. I was born in that year… lol! But I consider myself a kid of the 80’s that is my music!

He was a master of writing lyrics promoting social change. We could use some more like him right now. But his music still resonates today. He was an all-time great, no doubt.

Love Mr. Mayfield! The voice of a generation, and taken way too soon.
