Walmart Grocery Pickup

Hi everyone! I usually don’t like going to Walmart because it’s always crowded. The only time I’ve tried going in recent months is really early in the morning (I’m talking 5 or 6 a.m.). This weekend I decided to try the Walmart Grocery Pickup service. It’s been at some El Paso Walmart locations for a few months now. I enjoyed using it except for a couple of minor things that happened with my order. Here are the pros and cons of the Walmart Grocery Pickup I experienced.

PROS: The ordering process was simple and quick. I went to Walmart.com and ordered the foods and items I wanted. The items are available for up to 21 days. This is perfect for planning your Thanksgiving dinner and weeks later, your Christmas dinner. You might even be able to do your Christmas shopping this way. The process seems like it saves a lot of time, especially for those who don’t want to face the typical Walmart crowds. You can also purchase non-food items. I don’t think other grocery or department stores offer this service at this time except for Walmart.

CONS: They were missing some of the items I wanted and substituted them with similar items. The item that kind of upset me a little was substituting strawberry yogurt with light strawberry yogurt. In my opinion, light yogurt doesn’t taste the same as regular. They also substituted some of the Gatorade flavors I wanted, which wasn’t a big deal for me. I don’t think they should advertise these items for sale on their web site if they don’t have them in stock. They don’t accept cash or any other form of payment except for credit and debit cards. They don’t accept any coupons. You have to select from a one-hour timeline to pick up your groceries, you can’t just show up whenever. Walmart Grocery Pickup is only available at some (not all) locations around the U.S. at this time. You have to purchase a minimum of $30 worth of items in order to use this service (this isn’t actually a con, I don’t $30 is a lot to pay for groceries).

Have you tried this service before? If you have, what was your experience like? If you have this service in your area, feel free to use the following code for $10 off of your groceries. After you finish ordering your groceries on walmart.com, include this promotion code when prompted to: http://r.wmt.co/ezh5F You have to purchase a minimum of $50 to get this discount.

  1. Your service over there sounds a little bit better, Irene. $9 is pretty inexpensive! Spain is definitely on my list to visit someday! Thank you for your comment! 😊

  2. I don’t have Walmart in Spain, but other kind of supermarkets. I use one, where I order online and click a mark to avoid any extras, if something is sold out. Then I prefer no exchange either. I can choose to pay online or when they deliver. I do also choose, when I wish the delivering. Very good service, as I pay around 9 $ for with no max. Limit.

  3. I bought some cream of chicken soup there and it looked like oil. I bought it at Ingles and it looked like is should. My son-in-law (who is a brilliant man) told me that and I scoffed at him. “A brand name is a brand name,” I chided.
    Turns out…he was right. 🙂

  4. I just hate shopping there because it’s always crowded. This service is ok but I don’t know if I’ll keep using it. Campbell’s soup??

  5. I’ve never used Wal-Marts’ online ordering other than I order my supply of Boost and delivery is free.
I abhor Wal-Mart. Twenty or so years ago, they were great. They sold items made in America and I still have many of them….especially Christmas things. Now…everything is made in China or Taiwan and is junk.
I also heard (and became a believer) that even the “name brands” are made in different places and are below grade quality. That way, they can buy in bulk for a cheaper price. Campbells’ soup is a perfect example.

  6. I’ve used Target’s service for ordering online and picking up items at the store. It wasn’t bad, other than they put Head & Shoulders shampoo in place of Nivea Men’s Body wash. I haven’t used it since, however. I guess I don’t mind wandering in and out of the store. Not sure if the Walmart here has it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it did.

  7. I only use Wal Mart for exercise, and in the least busy hours. They and Target have the biggest floor space for walking in bad weather outside of the mall.

If I need something from there, I send my husband…he seems to get in/out without a hassle, and ONLY buys what is on my list. ☺
