Friday Song 3-24-17

Hi everyone! I hope you’re doing well and Happy Friday! I’m so glad we finally made it through this week! Today I’m sharing music from a local artist here. Khalid Robinson is making a huge name for himself these days. The 19-year-old recently performed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. He’s also making local and worldwide headlines. According to USA Today, his first and latest album American Teen is number 9 on the Billboard Music Charts. His song, Location is number 38 on Billboard’s Top 100. I’m really happy to say Khalid graduated from my alma mater, Americas High School in 2016. I graduated in 2000 but once a Trailblazer…always a Trailblazer! 😉 Another recent Trailblazer I’ve mentioned in the blog is last season’s “The Voice” contestant Elia Esparza. In case you missed that post, you can check it out here. I get really excited when I see fellow Trailblazers doing big things! I recently interviewed Elia for a freelance project I did earlier this month. She was very nice! She and some local rappers just released a collaborative album. I have yet to hear the album but when I do, I’ll let you know more about it. Anyway going back to Khalid…

Khalid began recording music when he was still attending Americas. He told USA Today “My high school was what crafted my interest in recording.” “Everyone at Americas showed me a lot of support. I always wanted to do music and record, but I never had the confidence to do it. I was really nervous.” Khalid ended up in El Paso because his mother is in the U.S. Army and stationed at Fort Bliss. I’m rooting for Khalid and Elia! I hope they continue to shine locally and worldwide. Have a great weekend, everyone and I’ll see you soon!
