Hi everyone. Sept. 11, 2001 is one of those days you’ll remember for the rest of your life. You remember who you were with and what you were doing. I’ve written about it before and I’ll write about it again. I was a sophomore at New Mexico State University. My alarm clock radio woke me up for class at about 7 a.m. after the first plane struck the first World Trade Center tower. The DJ couldn’t believe what was happening and was nearly screaming. I turned on the TV to see what was going on and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. All of my classes were canceled. I spent my 20th birthday watching the news. I went to have lunch at the cafeteria and the words the cafeteria lady said to me are stuck with me for life. “You’ll always remember this day as an important and tragic day in history.” She was right about that 17 years ago and to this day. What were you doing on 9/11/01?
I really enjoy “Fragile” by Sting. It has beautiful lyrics and a peaceful sound to it. Although the song originally debuted in 1987, he dedicated it to a friend in 2001 who lost his life inside one of the towers. You may not be able to view the video here but on YouTube you will.
P.S. On another note, I miss fellow blogger and friend, Johnna. She would’ve celebrated a birthday on Sept. 7. I think about her often. She’s someone who left a lasting impression on me. I remember the time I met her in Albuquerque and the countless other times she gave me advice on life and writing. We were planning for her to come visit me in El Paso but unfortunately she passed away before it happened. I know she’s resting in paradise with a bowl of the good stuff 🙂 Take care everyone and have a good day!
