Enough is enough with the police brutality!

Hi everyone. I hope you’re doing well and staying healthy. It’s been a rough week in this country and I don’t want to look the other way. I’m angry with so many others. Is this the so-called United States of America anymore? I’m angry with the way the Minneapolis police handled the situation with George Floyd’s death. I thought about it the day it happened a lot. I saw the video on national news and I couldn’t believe it. It was surreal! It’s been on my mind a lot lately days later. This is something that’s going to bother me and many others for a long time. There are so many unanswered questions. I realize this isn’t the first time something like this happens. It’s been going on for countless years. I know it happens more often than we know. How many more of these senseless killings are there going to be? How much more police brutality is there going to be? These four cops committed murder right before our very eyes! Thankfully, it was caught on video! These cops were supposed to serve and protect but they failed their community. I don’t care if Mr. Floyd resisted arrest or not…his last words on earth shouldn’t have been ‘I can’t breathe.’ These four cops got fired and only one has been arrested so far! I don’t understand why he’s being charged with only third degree murder. The cop (let’s not glorify his name) who put his knee on Mr. Floyd had 18 complaints against him. He’s only been punished for two of them! He should’ve been fired prior to this tragic incident.

People are bringing up the rioting and looting of stores at Target, Dollar Tree and others. Many have tried protesting peacefully for many years. Remember the Black Lives Matter movement? Remember Colin Kaepernick taking a knee before football games? Neither seemed to work that effectively. Those are just a couple of examples of peaceful protesting. Yes, Martin Luther King Jr. led peaceful protests but those days are pretty much long gone.

We deserve so much better as a nation. We keep getting failed in countless ways. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again…we have to raise our children to love and respect others who aren’t like them. This has to start at home beginning at a young age. We also need to use our voices (whether they are big or small), especially when if it can help others! As a human being, I’m hurting over this incident. I can’t imagine the pain Mr. Floyd’s family and the black community is going through. The black community has gone through so much over the years. Us Latinos and other minorities have gone through a lot too. This tragic incident shook me to my core more than any other police brutality incident. They’re all tragic but this one affected me just a bit more. I think it’s because I saw the video on TV and online. This incident is up there with the Walmart shooting my community experienced on Aug. 3, 2019.

In the last couple of months, I’ve become a fan of CNN’s Chris Cuomo. He’s a great journalist who makes a lot of valid points on his daily show. I was trying to get a video of his Tale of Two Cities speech/argument. He basically says the majority has to help the minority in order for change to take place in the United States. Until that happens, we aren’t going anywhere as a society and united country. Because of our leadership right now, I don’t see that happening in the near future. One can only hope it will happen someday…Take care everyone and see you next time!

  1. It sickening to say the least that this has been ongoing for generations, I guess the good thing to come from George Floyd’s death is that it’s now waking up an ignorant world. Thank you for sharing – please feel free to read my latest post too as touch upon similar things, and let me know what you think. 💗

  6. Excellent piece LIsa! Watching that video is traumatizing and it makes me sooooo tired and worn out. I sure would like to see something substantial happen; is enough really enough for folks?
But, what do we expect with MAGA man in the White House?

  7. Hi Lisa, I agree with everything you wrote. I am also very upset about this! This is happening too offen. Since the current president took office, these types of crimes are on the rise. I also enjoy listening to Cuomo.
Take care and God bless you! Greetings from Germany. ♥️ Karin
