El Paso’s Latest Mural Honors Local Artist

Hi everyone! I hope you’re doing well! I hope you’re staying safe and healthy. I know I know… I’ve been MIA again! I don’t even know how many times I’ve said Im sorry for it. I’ve been on assignment and working two jobs again. My son also started school online. He started his freshman (9th grade) year! Seriously, where does the time go? He’ll be doing the whole year online. Anyway…

I was recently invited by Estrella Jalisco beer (I love their mango beer btw!) to blog about the latest mural in town by Jesus ‘Cimi’ Alvarado. If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you might recall the interview I did with him some years back. If you don’t remember it, you can check it out here. The mural honors local artist, Patrick Gabaldon , along with his art and charity work. I had the opportunity to interview him back in 2018. Cimi is a friend of the family.

Gabaldon has used his artwork to support causes related to migrant children, Black Lives Matter, animal rights, LGBTQ and other local non-profit organizations. He raised $40,000 for the victims of the mass shooting at Walmart in El Paso. Patrick was chosen as the subject of the mural by Estrella Jalisco’s Artist in Residence Program. The brand is on a mission to bring color and brightness to 100 cities in the United States. The Mexican beer commissions local artists to create murals in cities like Los Angeles, Phoenix, El Paso and San Diego.

I had the opportunity to briefly catch up with Cimi. He told me he finished this mural in three days! He’s still working on several art projects, his day job and at his shop, Kalavera Culture Shop in downtown El Paso. “I did a painting within a painting of Patrick. I used his style of painting. He was chosen as the subject because of all of his charity work.” The mural is located at 1230 Texas Ave. in downtown El Paso. Both artists are an inspiration to the El Paso community. Here’s a few photos I took of the mural. Take care everyone and I’ll see you soon!

  1. Hi friend! Thank you for checking up on me! I have been slacking on blogging! Lol. I’m working 2 jobs and freelancing these days. Yes, Covid is very bad over here. I know a lot of people who have/were affected. Someone from work passed away. 😦 I have had to get tested on many occasions. Thank God I have tested negative this far. Hope you are well. I’ll blog one of these days. Please stay safe and healthy. Take care! ❤
